What is a NetID?

A Dartmouth NetID is a permanent, personal identifier that is uniquely assigned to every individual. It is used to log in to most Dartmouth systems. NetIDs have no correlation to real or legal names, thus eliminating the necessity to change them due to a life-changing event. You will only ever be issued one and it does not change if or when your affiliation with the College changes.

The NetID and password are what identifies you on the Dartmouth network and allows you to authenticate, providing access to your email account and other systems. It is your electronic fingerprint.

Finding a NetID

To find someone's NetID, do the following:

Setting or Changing your Password

  1. Visit  myaccount.dartmouth.edu
  2. Type in your NetID, and choose your name that appears from the dropdown.
  3. Verify your identity by sending a confirmation to your personal email on file, or call the Service Desk for a one-time code. 
  4. Enter your new password. You will be required to enter it twice to verify it.
  5. Select the Set Password button.
  6. You will receive confirmation of the password set and an option to enroll in Duo two-factor authentication.

Effects of changing your password (on your NetID)

When you change your password, within 24 hours you must change the password on any and all devices (phones, tablets, iPads, etc.) that attempt to login automatically to your account or use your account to access Eduroam. If you fail to do so, you may be locked out of your account due to those devices repeatedly attempting to log in using your old credentials.

If you get locked out of your account, call the IT Service Desk at 603-646-2999 or your area's IT Support office to regain access.
